This detached modern house has a large garden but parts of it were unusable: the end section was steeply sloped and ended in a boggy area, prone to flooding. Our clients wanted to reclaim as their own!
We created a sweeping curved path and walkway, leading via a small bridge to a circular decked area. As we dug the new lay-out we were able to smooth out some of the slopes at the same time. The path was covered with Breedon Binding Gravel, a limestone product used extensively by the National Trust and extremely useful for its natural ability to stay put. This means whatever the weather the clients can walk down to the new garden without getting their feet wet.
The existing stream was cleaned out, de-silted and now runs through what has become a pretty valley walk. The steep slope was re-turfed following the new contours and is now being planted up with a variety of water-loving and shade plants.
An unusable wilderness has become a delightful waterside garden.
