Garden project Bitchets Green, Sevenoaks.
Our clients had moved out of the property while extensive refurbishing and building works were completed on the house.
Oakmore Green came up with the perfect design plan for their new garden,
situated on the outskirts of Sevenoaks behind Knole House and the surrounding estate.
It was quite a rural garden much of it slopping down away and flowing into woodland most of the existing mature planting stayed lots of Rhododendrons and such like surrounded the garden and a large Magnolia but a lot of Spring colour to the garden.
The main bulk of the design focused on the house, pool area and the large front drive creating flat useable areas for the children to play and the family to entertain.
The first part of the garden build was the rear terrace as the ongoing building work kept the front of the house busy with other trades.
There was an existing terrace built from sandstone, the plan extended these terraced areas and reshaped the whole area, we constructed the retaining walls using reinforced concrete blocks clad with a split-faced Oyster Quartzite natural stone tile.
The irregular shapes and textures of the stone create a visually appealing and organic look for the walls adding character and charm to the outdoor space.
Oyster stone is known for its durability and resistance to wear and tear, making it an excellent choice for outdoor applications.
Underneath part of the terrace area, an underground garden room was created, looking out over the view across the fields. Around the top part of the terrace, a bespoke Wrought Iron balustrade was installed to encapsulate the area.
We constructed steps to the garden room surrounding the area with a rockery from stone dug out from the building as an area of interest landscaping around the steps.
The main terrace was paved using a natural sawn sandstone which had been sealed to help prevent weathering and staining.
The smooth sandstone, the precisely cut surface offers a refined aesthetic which integrates with various architectural styles, be it traditional or contemporary in the sandstone we inlaid two clay paved features, adding in the clay paver offered a rustic touch complementing the two materials together, each brick carefully laid in a Herringbone pattern which added interest and character to the terrace.
Once the pool was constructed by an outsourced company we began constructing the surrounding terrace area.
Firstly, the area surrounding the pool had to be raised, so we constructed retaining walls and filled them for our sub-base, we laid the terrace area using a light grey 600x900mm Porcelain in a staggered pattern.
Using the Porcelain provides an exceptional consistent finish, with a designed textured surface to create an-slip finish and a realistic look.
Around the pool we installed a bespoke 40mm bullnose edge matching the rest of the porcelain.
The smooth rounded edge of the bullnose profile provides a comfortable surface for swimmers to lean and sit on which enhances the aesthetics, durability and safety of the pool area.
The existing walls of the drive we extended and repaired again cladding them with natural Split Oyster Stone tiles capping the wall off with a specially profiled brick to finish .
Before the drive could be finished all the drainage for the drive had to be dug in and connected, gully drains in front of the back door and along the front of the garage and the drains within the drive we installed.
The drive was finished with a 200×100 Granite set edging and a finished surface of tarmac laid.
