Pluckley Garden project
Set in the Kentish countryside Pluckley is a small rural village and is in the Guinness Book of Records as it is reputed to be the most haunted village in Britain.
This was a garden designed by Oakmore Green Ltd landscape design.
This was a large stone house built on a farm with a large garden area of mostly grass and Rose flower beds edged with Box hedging there weren’t any hard-standing areas.
The kitchen had recently been renovated opening a large part of the house up to the garden needing a much-wanted entertaining area but to keep it in keeping with the style of this beautiful house.
The main terrace was laid using Tumbled Oxford Sandstone which offers a timeless and natural look for this outdoor space. Being tumbled gives the stone a weathered aged appearance enhancing the rustic character of the stone.
Sandstone is known for its durability and versatility making it suitable for various landscape projects. Its warm earthy tones with its textured surfaces add depth and visual interest to this outdoor space, creating an inviting atmosphere to enjoy.
By adding clay pavers to the edge, the patio gave some detail and structure to the patio design also tying in with the surrounding paths.
The pathways were constructed using clay pavers, which took you around the house linking the various areas of the garden and also creating a detailed border for the flower beds, with bordered edges and laying them in a Herringbone pattern, making them an excellent choice for defining edges and creating intricate patterns.
Clay pavers are resistant to fading and wear ensuring that the paths maintain their beauty for years to come the combination of these materials complements the house while providing functional and appealing hard standing areas.
Stepping out from the kitchen into the kitchen garden set down from the rest of the garden bordered with a traditional Kent Rag stone wall, the stone was already stored on site.
Kent Rag stone is a Sedentary rock with its rugged, irregular texture and appearance that adds charm and character to the build as well as matching the house build material.
The main circular seating area was again laid with the Oxford Sandstone and bordered using the Clay pavers we constructed a large semi-circle seat using the Rag stone to match the walling and the top was made using Cedar wood.
Cedar is valued for its natural beauty, durability and its resistance to decaying and insects making it well suited for outdoor use.
Combining the Cedar wood top with its smooth surface offers a comfortable seating experience set atop the Kent Rag stone.
Also within the kitchen garden we constructed from an old sandstone troff a water feature with a Corten steel water blade creating a tranquil atmosphere with the sound of flowing water promoting relaxation and a sense of calm.
The other parts of paving were toothed out and Cotswold chipping brushed between connecting the paved areas. With new soft planting throughout the garden creating the ideal outdoor space for entertaining family and friends.
